THE BEGINNING ...

It all started in 1980 when two small groups of runners started to train in Berwick.

They decided to unite and became Berwick Harriers, there first club house was a small hut in the Youth and Community Centre in Berwick. They formed a committee and began to enter events in the Northeast and the Scottish Borders.

By the mid eighties the club had grown to around forty members by this time the members were training four nights a week. Some were doing marathons & triathlons others raising money for charity groups.

By 1985 the club had three qualified coaches, coaching the junior members. One coach still trains in the club today.

By the nineties the club had grown to big for there small hut so they moved to their present club house at Tweedmouth Middle School and also having the use of the school sports hall and grass track now only trianing two nights a week.

The club is still competing at track and field events at Gateshead & Tweedbank Stadiums also cross country and road races. They also support all the local races in the area. The club has lasted for twenty five years with a lot of hard work from a small group of volunteers.

The Harriers have been more successfull in XC event over the last 25 years than all the other event  they compete in allways having runners in the top places in the junior and seniors races

its down to the coaches and winter training they do.
